Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has ordered the immediate shut down of all public and private schools in the Northwest state.

Recall that Zamfara State and Jigawa State had also closed down schools over the rising cases of abduction in the region.

Speaking to Premium Times on Tuesday evening, the Kano commissioner of education, Sanusi Kiru, confirmed the closure.

Sanusi Kiru called on parents to pick up their children in boarding schools on Wednesday.

The commissioner, however, did not reveal the reason behind the schools’ closure.

The closure of schools in Kano State is coming three days to the end of the third term.

Schools in Kano were expected to close on Friday, December 18.

Naija News recalls that bandits last week Friday abducted 333 students of the Government Science Secondary School (GSSS), Kankara, Katsina State.

The Abubakar Shekau led faction of the Boko Haram later claimed responsibility for the abduction of the students.

During a visit to brief President Muhammadu Buhari on the kidnapping, Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State revealed that the state government was already in negotiation with the bandits.
