What I Would Do To Ghost Workers, Pensioners Earning N330m – Imo State Gov. Uzodinma Fumes

Uzodinma

Imo state governor, Hope Uzodinma has cried out over facts that some pensioners in the state are earning monies above their retirement salaries, while others get the outrageous amount that is unaccounted for.

Uzodinma, who spoke during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Owerri, the state capital, promised that the names of the culprits, especially those earning more than N330 million annually as pension will be published soon.

According to him, the process of integrating Imo pensioners into the National Contributory Pensions Scheme has been set up by him.

He said “Government will no more make use of microfinance banks for payments of salaries and pensions because they are no clearing houses for BVN holders so that pensioners can be paid directly.

“Government has decided to automate all payments to enable it to migrate to the contributory pension’s scheme.”

He said after the biometric verification, no one would be able to defraud the government again.

Uzodinma said only verified primary and secondary school teachers, will receive their salaries.

He further warned that his administration would attack all those “playing politics” with pensions and salaries, while advising them to desist from such act.

In May, the governor had scrapped payment of pensions to former governors, deputy governors, speakers and deputy speakers of the state.
