The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, on Thursday night confirmed two hundred and forty-five new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria. The agency in a post on their official Twitter account confirmed the new cases bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 7261.
2. President Buhari Makes Fresh Appointment
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Professor Adamu Kyuka Usman as Chairman of Governing Board of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). In a letter dated 15, May 2020 and signed by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, Buhari said the appointment takes effect from May 14, 2020.
3. Fasting Continues Saturday, Eid-el-Fitr To Hold Sunday
The 2020 Eid-el-fitr will hold on Sunday as fasting is to end tomorrow, Saturday. This was announced by the national moon sighting committee of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Abuja.
4. President Buhari Grants Financial Autonomy To State Legislature, Judiciary
President Muhammadu Buhari has granted financial autonomy to the legislature and judiciary across the 36 states of the federation. Naija News reports that the Nigerian leader granted the financial autonomy via a new executive order signed on Friday, May 22, a tweet on the micro-blogging site, Twitter by the President revealed.
5. Coronavirus: Nigeria Makes History As NCDC Validates Viral RNA Extraction
Nigeria has recorded another victory in the fight against COVID-19 as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has successfully validated the first phase of the viral Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) extraction which should enable local production of cheap testing kits for coronavirus. The validation took place on Thursday in the laboratory of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) in Abuja, Naija News understands.
6. President Buhari Approves The Appointment Of New NECO Registrar
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Professor Godswill Obioma as the new Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO). According to a letter dated 15th May 2020 with Reference No: FME/PS/396/C1/1/134 and signed by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, the letter stated that the appointment which is for an initial tenure of five years takes effect from 14th May 2020.
7. APC Clears Ize-Iyamu To Challenge Obaseki In Party’s Primary
The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to contest for the governorship ticket of the party in Edo State. Naija News reports that the APC NWC granted the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain a waiver on Thursday night.

In what has been described as insane and fearful, a middle-aged Nigerian is seen in a video now-viral setting the Holy Bible and Holy Quran on fire with pride. The young man whose identity is yet to be identified bragged in the video that he is the first person to set on fire the two religious books, one of the Christian faith and the other for the Islamic believers.
