Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance and ex-World Bank Director, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has reacted to comments about her appointment as a member of the South African Economic Advisory Council, EAC.

Naija News previously reported that President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa had named Okonjo-Iweala as a member of his country’s economic team.

Loads of commendations have been pouring in following her appointment including comments from former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and many others.

Taking to her Twitter account late Sunday evening, Iweala wrote: “I am grateful for the outpouring of love and support from Nigerians and other friends on my appointment by President @CyrilRamaphosa as a member of the South African PEAC. I appreciate Your Excellencies and all my friends and followers.”

The Economic Advisory Council is expected to “advise the president and government more broadly, facilitating the development and implementation of economic policies that spur inclusive growth.

“The council is a non-statutory and independent body chaired by the president and brings together prominent economists and technical experts drawn from academia, the private sector, labour, community, think tanks and other constituencies. The members, who will volunteer their time and be compensated for subsistence and travel, are appointed to serve a three-year term,” South Africa’s presidency noted.
