1. Why Yemi Osinbajo’s helicopter crashed – AIB
The Accident Investigation Bureau ( AIB ) has today revealed the reason why Vice President Yemi Osibanjo’s chopper crashed
The AIB Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer Akin Olateru disclosed that the crash occurred because it landed on a dry dusty environment.
2. AGF Malami asks INEC to postpone elections in Zamfara, gives reasons
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) asking the commission to postpone the governorship, House of Assembly and National Assembly elections in Zamfara State to enable the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field candidates in the polls.
A copy of the three-page letter bearing Malami’s signature and dated February 13, 2019, with reference number MJ/DSD/03, emerged online on Thursday.
3. President Buhari signs peace accord ahead of 2019 general elections
President Muhammadu Buhari has described the forthcoming 2019 general elections as special and significant for the growth of Nigeria’s democracy.
He also gave assurances that despite the anxiety in many quarters, the election would be free, fair and credible as all stakeholders would work together to ensure success.
4. 2019 Election: PDP sues INEC, faults its decision on card reader
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the use of card readers for the general election.
In a suit filed before the federal high court in Abuja, the party asked the court to restrict INEC from postponing elections in any polling unit as a result of a malfunctioning card reader.
5. Court grants ex-SGF, Babachir Lawal bail
A Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, granted former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal and two others bail.
Naija News had earlier reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday arraigned Lawal before Justice Jude Okeke-led court on a 10-count charge bothering on alleged fraud and conspiracy.
6. What Atiku said at the second signing of peace accord for 2019 elections
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alh Atiku Abubakar has called on all stakeholders to ensure a free, fair and credible 2019 election.
He made the call while speaking in Abuja on Wednesday during the signing of the peace accord for the conduct of the 2019 general elections in Nigeria.
7. Onnoghen: CCT orders Police, DSS to arrest suspended CJN
The Code of Conduct Tribunal has ordered security agencies to effect the arrest of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
Chairman of the CCT, Danladi Umar, instructed both the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of DSS to ensure Onnoghen’s arrest.
8. Kidnappers Of APC Campaign DG Demand N200m Ransom
The sum of N200 million ransom has been demanded by the kidnappers of the Director General of the All Progressives Congress House of Representatives candidate for Ovia Federal Constituency of Edo State, Mr. Monday Aighobhahi.
Recall that Naija News had reported that some suspected gunmen on Tuesday abducted Mr Monday Aighobahi shortly after a campaign rally at Ofosu.
9. Court stops ministry of justice and NFIU from freezing Onnoghen’s accounts
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has stopped the federal government from freezing the accounts of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
Naija News understands that the order came as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) yesterday reiterated its call on the federal government to withdraw the charges of non-declaration of assets filed against Onnoghen.
10. No plan for last-minute Brexit vote – British Govt
The British government has denied speculations that it was secretly planning to force the Parliament into a last-minute choice on Brexit between a rejigged deal or a lengthy delay.
A report had it that it had overheard Prime Minister Theresa May’s chief Brexit negotiator Olly Robbins in a Brussels bar saying the European Union would probably let Britain extend its March 29 departure date.
