Minimum Wage: NLC Suspends Strike, Agreed Figure To Be Announced Today

The Nationwide strike action proposed by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and United Labour Congress (ULC) have been halted indefinitely.

The action which was suppose to commence 12am on Tuesday was suspended on Monday Night after a closed door meeting of the Tripartite Committee on new minimum wage.

The leader of the Union, Ayuba Wabba, said the decision to suspend the industrial action declared by the labour associations was reached after agreements were reached and document signed by the two parties.

“Having reached this position and agreements signed, the proposed strike action is hereby suspended,” he said.

Wabba, whoever did not disclosed the kind and magnitude of agreement the union reached with the federal government.

He noted that the amount would only be made public after presentation of the report to President Muhammadu Buhari later in day at 4:15pm.

Chairman of the Tripartite Committee, Ama Pepple, expressed her excitement that their assignment had been concluded.
“I am happy to report to you that we have concluded our assignment and we will submit our report to the President by 4.15pm on Tuesday.
“We will reveal the figure at the presentation,” she assured.

The Secretary to the Federal government, Boss Mustapha applauded the two parties for coming to a compromise as regards the issues contemplated on.

He added that the federal government will continue to make the interest of the Nigerian people a priority.

Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, also said a mutual agreement on the new minimum wage would be made public after a meeting with the president.
