EFCC: Former Imo Governor, Okorocha Still In Detention

Alleged Corruption: Igbo Youths Condemn Okorocha’s Arrest

The former Governor of Imo State and lawmaker representing Imo West Senatorial District, Rochas Okorocha, is still being detained in Abuja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, 24 hours after his arrest, Premium Times reports.

Naija News had earlier reported that the Senator was arrest by the anti-graft agency on Tuesday at his Unity House private office in Abuja.

Recall that Okorocha on Tuesday denied that he was arrested by the anti-graft agency, but was invited for questioning.

Sources closer to the development, noted that Okorocha was arrested after a five-hour standoff with EFCC operatives who trailed him to the location.

It was gathered that the former Governor had been repeatedly invited by the commission to its Abuja headquarters in connection with multiple corruption allegations against him.

The lawmaker, however, declined to honour the invitation, a development that saw him arrested.

Sources in EFCC on Wednesday noted that Okorocha slept over at the detention facility of the commission in Wuse 2, Abuja.

On why he has not been released, the sources said “operatives have been interrogating him since his arrest since Tuesday.”

The interrogation has continued till this afternoon,” one of the sources added, but could not tell when the questioning session would end.

Meanwhile, details of the allegations levelled against the lawmaker are sketchy.
