Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has hinted that he will contest for the presidency in the 2023 general election.
The Rivers state governor gave the hint while appearing on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme on Wednesday.
When asked if he would be running alongside Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, for the Presidency in 2023, he responded, “Am I not a human being? Am I not supposed to have ambition? I am a human being.”
Speaking further, Wike slammed Governor David Umahi for leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Naija News had reported earlier that the Ebonyi Governor announced his defection from PDP to APC while addressing journalists in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital on Tuesday, November 17.
Governor Umahi said he moved to the ruling APC because of injustice meted out to the Southeast by his former political party, the PDP.
The Ebonyi Governor clarified that he has no deal with the APC or any member of the party with regards to the zoning of the presidential position to the southeast in 2023 as touted in some quarters.
Wike, however, insisted that Umahi left because he wanted to be President and not because the PDP marginalised the South-East as he claimed.
He said the PDP gave the South-East key positions while it was in power, including the Senate Presidency and the Chief of Army Staff which it had never had before.
The governor said the PDP also nominated Peter Obi from the South-East as its Vice-Presidential candidate in 2019 but the APC had not even come close to such.
