An oath of secrecy issued to Lagos State youth representatives by the state government on the newly set up panel probing the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, has been leaked to the public domain.
Naija News understands that the judicial body was constituted by the state government on October 15 to ensure officers of the Nigeria Police Force guilty of brutality are made to face the law. This is also understood to be connected to the unveiling of the mystery behind the Lekki Toll Gate shooting and issues surrounding the End SARS campaign across the state.
On Tuesday (today), October 27, Rinu Oduala and Temitope Majekodunmi joined Lagos Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims and were reportedly handed an oath to sign which was leaked to social media.
The mentioned representatives and other members of the panel will recommend punishments for the guilty and appropriate compensation for the victims.
However, details contained in the oath handed to them on Tuesday has caused outrage as many have insisted that the hearings must be made public. Naija News learnt that the panel had withdrew the oath before swearing in the youth reps.
Given update on the swearing and signing of the oath, Moe Odele, an End SARS advocate and co-founder of the Feminist Coalition shared; “This has been rejected after concerns were raised and a dialogue was held this morning. The panellists will not be signing this document,”
See below a copy of the oath and photos from the sittings today as shared on social media;
Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) President, Olumide Apata, journalists, observers, among others are at the venue of the sitting, Naija News understands.
Oduala, Majekodunmi and other panel members are tasked with listening to the submissions of SARS survivors, interrogating the accused personnel, and determining the veracity of all claims.
The panel will sit on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm at the Lagos Court of Arbitration at Remi Olowude Street, in Lekki.
In another news, on Tuesday, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, disclosed that states government received N1billion from the Federal Government to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
