Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri has condemned the attack on Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi in Madrid, Spain.
Naija News reports that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) attacked Rotimi Amaechi, months after attacking Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President.
The minister disclosed the attack in a tweet on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.
In the message, the Transportation Minister said the attackers were repelled by the Spanish police.
“Some minutes ago, I was attacked by a few misguided Nigerians while on national assignment at a climate change event in Madrid, Spain,” he said.
“They were quickly repelled by the Spanish police before they could do any harm. I am fine. I was not hurt. Thanks for your support & prayers.”
The attack was confirmed to have been carried out by IPOB members, Emma Powerful, IPOB spokesman, made the confirmation.
Reacting to the attack in a statement, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended the quick intervention of the Nigerian Mission in Spain and the Spanish police.
“We applaud the prompt intervention of the Nigerian Mission in Spain as well as the Spanish police who ensured that the attacks did not escalate any further,” she said.
“Information indicates that the case is being handled by the Spanish Police.
“We appeal to Nigerians to be of good behaviour wherever they find themselves because such incidents ultimately tarnish the image of the country within the host country, with multiplier negative effects on Nigerians living in that country, who are law-abiding and well behaved”.
