A former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has described the release of Omoyele Sowore by the Department of State Services on Thursday evening as a big relief.
Sani who further described Sowore’s release as a long walk to freedom, commended the activist’s legal team for their resilience as well as the courage of the court to in ensuring that justice was served.
The lawmaker said Sowore’s ordeal and detention by the DSS had tainted the image of the Nigerian Government on human rights and respect for the rule of law.
Naija News recalls Sowore and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare were released on Thursday evening after over 100 days in the custody of the secret police.
Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier ordered the DSS on Thursday to set them free within 24 hours and pay N100,000 to them for keeping them in detention despite court orders on their release.
