Xenophobia: Abike-Dabiri Gives Update On Latest Attacks On Nigerians In South Africa

Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has stated that “Early Warning Signal” mechanisms signed by Nigeria and South Africa would be implemented by the two countries in order to curb xenophobic attacks.

Through a statement released by the Head of Media Unit of NIDCOM, Mr Abdur-Rahman Balogun,  Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa was quoted as speaking against the backdrop of renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians.

The statement said: “The Consul-General, Godwin Adama, is on top of the situation. He is currently in Widbank, Mpumulanga, where the crisis happened. He is at a meeting with the highest police authorities there.

It said the mission intervened swiftly and the situation has been brought under control.

“After this meeting, a meeting with Nigerians along with the South African Police will hold.”

The NIDCOM chairman said that at this stage, further developments would be taken up between the two ministers of Foreign Affairs of both countries.
