The National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday destroyed seven tonnes of several illicit drugs including Cannabis Sativa, Diazepam, Rophynol, Cough syrups with codeine and Tramadol.
Naija News understands that the Acting Commander of NDLEA in Taraba, Peter Odaudu, made this known on Friday, in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.
The NDLEA commander during a public destruction of the illicit drugs revealed the details of the drugs that were earlier confiscated by men of the NDLEA.
The NDLEA Commander said the deadly weeds and psychotropic drugs that were been destroyed on Friday, were seized between January, 2003 and December, 2018.
He said the Agency has already obtained a court order with regards to the destruction of the illicit drugs in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.
Odaudu made the announcement shortly after the agency’s chairman, Lt. Col Muhammad Ahmadu also disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the recruitment of 5,000 personnel to boost the agency’s operations.
While speaking on the recruitment, Odaudu said that the recruitment would go a long way in improving operations of the agency and the campaign against drug addiction.
He said the recruitment was part of the efforts to sanitize the Nigerian society from the abuse of drugs, especially the use of illicit drugs, mostly caught in the habit of the youths.
