1. Nigeria Gets N2.2bn From Germany To Fight COVID-19

The German Mission in Nigeria has pledged €5.5m (N2.2bn) to the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund for the fight against COVID-19 in the West African country.

Naija News reports that the €5.5m (N2.2bn) pledge disclosed in a tweet on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Nigeria on Thursday, April 2.

2. Nigeria’s Debt Profile Increases To N27.4tn

The Debt Management Office (DMO ) has revealed that Nigeria’s total debt profile has risen once more despite several palliative measures from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

According to DMO the total amount borrowed by the Federal Government alongside the 36 states of the federation grew to N27.4 trillion at the end of 2019.

3. FG Withdraws Request For Coronavirus Help From US Billionaire, Elon Musk

The Federal Government of Nigeria has backtracked on its earlier request for help from US billionaire, Elon Musk in combating the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Naija News reports Musk had taken to his official Twitter handle to disclose that his firm had extra ventilators that had been approved by the Food and Drug Administration in America for a giveaway.

Naija News understands that the request was made alongside other African countries as the Minister of Finance from African countries revealed that the debt relief should be done with the support of multilateral and bilateral financial institutions.

6. Coronavirus Lockdown: Don’t Trample On Citizens’ Rights – IG Warns Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, has cautioned officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force currently deployed for the enforcement of the lockdown and social restriction orders to ensure that the rights of Nigerians are not infringed upon under any pretext.

Also, persons on essential duties, duly exempted from the restriction orders, should be accorded due courtesies and unfettered access to and fro their places of duty.

7. COVID-19: AfDB Approves $2m Emergency Fund For African Countries

The leadership of the African Development Bank (AfDB), has approved two million dollars emergency assistance for the World Health Organisation (WHO), to reinforce its capacity to help African countries contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement issued by the bank’s communication and external relations department on Wednesday it said the fund would also help mitigate the impacts of the pandemic.

8. APC Expels Gombe Lawmaker Over Anti-Party Activities

House of Representatives member representing Akko federal constituency, Rep Usman Bello Kumo got dismissed from the All Progressives Congress over alleged anti-party activities.

Naija News learnt that the leadership of the Kumo East ward chapter of Akko local government which is the ward of the lawmaker took the decision and related same to the National Chairman of the party in a letter dated 1st, April, 2020.

10. PDP Tells Buhari To Reduce Petrol Pump Price Further

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has released a fresh demand to the APC led federal government with regards to the newly announced pump price of N123.50k price.

According to a statement by the spokesman for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the appropriate price per liter be fixed at N90 and not N123.50k.
