Atiku Roasts Buhari In Latest Rant

Former Nigeria’s Vice President and presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has attacked President Muhammadu Buhari for declaring June 12 as Democracy Day.

Naija News reports that the former vice president attacked Buhari in his message he released on Wednesday, June 12 to commemorate the Democracy Day celebration in Nigeria.

Atiku in his message described the President as being disrespectful to the rule of law and court orders.

Atiku, in a statement on Wednesday, June 12, said it was not enough for the President to declare June 12 a Democracy Day.

He said that despite the government declaring June 12 as democracy day, the government of the day was disrespectful of the rule of law and alleged that the government also disregarded court orders on issues that bordered on fundamental human rights.

In his words, Atiku said; “It is not enough to declare June 12 a work-free day when the ordinary people of Nigeria still don’t have the freedom to find a better life from the suffocating grip of poverty, when Nigeria is now the global headquarters of extreme poverty. It is not enough to declare June 12 a work-free day when a disproportionate number of citizens are not sure of where their next meal will come from and when the sanctity of their lives is not guaranteed. It is not enough to declare June 12 a work-free day when freedom of the press, and of speech, fundamentals of democracy is being assailed,” he said.
