Rivers 2019 Governorship Election: Live Updates, Results And Situation Report

Today, 9 March 2019, the people of Rivers State, South-south Nigeria, will troop out to elect a governor as well as State House of Assembly representatives for another four years term.

Naija News understands that the electorates are expected to vote from a list of thirty-three (64) candidates for the post of a governor from and 558 House of Assembly candidates on the platform of the political parties. There are 3.22 million Registered voters in Rivers state.

In the build-up to the election, Incumbent Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, has popped up clearly as a top contender for the office of the governor.

Apart from Governor Wike, the leading governorship candidates of parties include, Dumo Lulu-Briggs (AP); Victor Fingesi (ADP); Isaac Wonwu (LP), Precious Elekima (SDP); Elem Chinweike of the Hope Democratic Party; (HDP) and Joseph Princewill for the Mega Party of Nigeria (MPN).

The election would take place in twenty-three (23) local government areas, three hundred and nineteen (319) electoral wards and four thousand, four hundred and forty-two (4442) polling units in the state.

Local government areas where the election will take place are: Port Harcourt, Obio-Akpor, Okrika, Ogu–Bolo, Eleme, Tai, Gokana, Khana, Oyigbo, Opobo–Nkoro, Andoni, Bonny, Degema, Asari-Toru, Akuku-Toru, Abua–Odual, Ahoada West, Ahoada East, Ogba–Egbema–Ndoni, Emohua, Ikwerre, Etche, Omuma local government area.
