The most wanted criminal in Anambra state, Ikechukwu Udensi, also known as Ikanda has been arrested by the state police command.
Ikanda was been sorted for after killing a businessman, Mr Ndubuisi Nwokolo in Onitsha in last year.
Ikanda and some of his gang members last year killed the 38-year-old businessman in broad daylight, for attempting to save a commercial motorcyclist conveying him from being extorted by Ikanda and his boys.
The Anambra State Government had placed a N1million bounty on Ikanda for anyone who can provide information that could lead to the arrest of the notorious criminal.
Report had it that he works for several big politicians in the state who always sort for his release when he is arrested.
The Commissioner of police in the state, Mustapha Dandaura, while parading the suspect before journalist said he was appreheneded on Sunday in Onitsha after a tip-off, while sneaking into the town to collect proceeds of illegal toll collection from his men.
“We had launched an aggressive manhunt for him after the killing in June 2018, and on Sunday, 31 March 2019, following painstaking intelligence and strategic planning, police operatives attached to command operation Udoka and special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) raided criminal hideouts at Menax near flyover in Onitsha and arrested the notorious suspect.”
Five other men were paraded by the commissioner, Abuchi Nwogwu, Okwudili Nwanne, Mmaduabuchi Obia, Chiedozie Orah and Ekechi Chukwuemeka who were said to have set ablaze a police station in Ajalli, Orumba South LGA, shortly before the general elections and carted away three AK 47 riffles.
The CP also stated that the criminals are suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafrahad during the incident also wounded a police DCO.
Upon interrogation, the suspects took police operatives to their criminal hideout and one AK47 rifle with breech number KO3588792 which was carted at the police station was recovered.
A suspect identified as Amauwa and suspected to be a member of a one-chance robbery gang which operates around Onitsha axis was also paraded.
Ikanda had stated that the killing of the businessman was carried out by his boys and not himself.
Dandaura said investigations were ongoing in all the cases, and that the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution afterwards.
