1. Rochas Okorocha denies dumping APC for AA
Rochas Okorocha, the governor of Imo State, has described as false the claim that he was planning to announce his defection from the All Progressive Congress to Action Alliance, AA.
According to a report, the governor allegedly announced his defection from the ruling party to the party on which his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, is running for governor during the New Year Crossover Service in Government House.
2. Father Mbaka declares support for Buhari’s re-election
The spiritual director of adoration ministry, Ejike Mbaka, has shown support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s elections bid.
The charismatic priest made his support for President Buhari known in his new year message.
3. Katsina State is under siege – Gov. Masari laments
Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has on Wednesday, cried out that the state was under the siege of attacks by bandits, armed robbers and kidnappers.
Governor Masari cried out during the opening ceremony of an extra-ordinary security meeting in katsina attended by soldiers, the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), other security outfits and traditional rulers in the state.
4. FG releases N15.8bn to universities to end ASUU strike
The ASUU strike which has lingered for some months might come to an end soonest as the Federal Government is making concessions to the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)
The concessions will be tabled before the union’s leaders on Monday at a meeting to be convened by Labour and Employment Minister, Chris Ngige.
5. IGP removes Imo state police commissioner, others
A major reshuffle has taken place in the Imo State Police Command as the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has removed the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi and some other key officers.
The Police Boss also removed the three Deputy Commissioners of Police in the Command who were in charge of the Operations and State Criminal and Investigation Departments of the Command.
6. Why Buhari set up technical committee on new minimum wage – Minister
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udo Udoma, had said President Muhammadu Buhari remains committed to implementing the increased new minimum wage.
The minister, while speaking during the public presentation of the 2019 budget explained that already, a high powered technical committee has been set up to generate ideas on how to source funds to sustain the new minimum wage and minimize inflationary impacts when the new minimum wage gets operational.
7. Army declares doctor soliciting funds for troops wanted
The Nigerian Army has distanced itself from a fund raising programme designed to raise money to feed troops fighting Boko Haram terrorists in the country.
The director of army public relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman made this known in a press release on 2nd January 2019.
8. Melaye accuses police of planning to break down his house doors
Embattled Kogi senator, Dino Melaye has raised an alarm this morning, alleging the police have arrived in vans with tool boxes to break down the doors to his house.
The Kogi west senator took to his twitter account to raise the alarm.
9. ASUU deny knowledge of N15.8b paid by FG to end strike action
The Academic Staff Union of Universities says it has not been briefed on the alleged payment of N15.89bn to universities by the Federal Government, two months after it embarked on strike.
The union’s National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos.
10. Nnamdi Kanu calls on Igbos to boycott 2019 elections
Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has called on all Igbos to boycott 2019 genral election in his New Year broadcast yesterday.
Kanu while speaking in the New Year Day live broadcast, insisted that a referendum for the Republic of Biafra must be conducted, stressing that without the referendum, he and other pro-Biafra activists will boycott the general elections scheduled for February.
