1. Kayode Fayemi wins at Ekiti governorship election tribunal

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi has won at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Monday.

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prof. Kolapo Olusola had filed a petition against Fayemi following the July 14 governorship election which he lost.

2. Lagos State House of Assembly may impeach Gov Ambode

The Lagos State House of Assembly, on Monday 29 January, initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Akinwunmi Ambode over misappropriation of funds and failure to present the state budget for 2019.

The Assembly subsequently summoned Ambode to appear before it within one week over the budget, which has reportedly become a source of dispute between the two arms of government.

3. Biafra: IPOB declares sit-at-home in Abia ahead of Buhari’s visit

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Nnamdi Kanu, has ordered its members in Abia state, southern Nigeria, to observe a sit-at-home on Tuesday ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari‘s visit to Aba, the commercial nerve of the state.

Naija News reports that the secessionist group gave this order in a statement issued on Monday evening by its spokesman, Emma Powerful.

4. Onnoghen has not resigned – media aide debunks rumour

Reports that Walter Onnoghen, suspended chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) has resigned has been debunked.

Onnoghen’s senior special assistant on media, Awusam Bassey who debunked the rumour said they were “handiwork of mischief makers” as there was no truth in it.

5. Former CJN Onnoghen’s CCT trial adjourned indefinitely

After the suspension of Walter Onnoghen, as Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on Monday adjourned his trial indefinitely.

During the CCT’s sitting, the Judge said that the trial remains adjourned pending the determination of the application at the appeal court.

6. Don’t push Nigeria into a constitutional crisis – Atiku warns Buhari in state of the nation address

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alh. Atiku Abubakar has again called on Nigerians to vote against President Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming presidential elections.

Atiku further accused the Buhari led executive arm of government of disregarding and fighting against the other two arms of government – legislative and judiciary.

7. DSS gave me the $500,000 Lawan collected as bribe – Otedola

Femi Otedola, a billionaire businessman, has alleged that the Department of State Services (DSS) gave him the $500,000 he offered to Farouk Lawan, a former lawmaker.

This he disclosed on Monday in front of a judge of the federal capital territory high Court, Apo, Angela Otaluka.

8. Onnoghen: Agbakoba writes petition against acting CJN Tanko Mohammed

Senior lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olisa Agbakoba has written a petition against the newly appointed acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Mohammed.

Agbakoba in the petition dated 28th January, 2019, and addressed to the National Judicial Council (NJC), accused Mohammed of acting against the law by presenting himself for swearing in by President Buhari.

9. All plans to rig election in Benue State would be hindered – Gov. Ortom

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has noted that any attempt to rig the 2019 general elections would be resisted by the state.

This he said today, while swearing-in the Chairman and Commissioners of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) in Makurdi.

10. NBA directs members to boycott courts nationwide over Onnoghen

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has directed its members across the nation to boycott courts from Tuesday over the suspension of Walter Onnoghen, chief chief justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The association took the decision at its emergency national executive committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday.
