The presidency has given more details on the sacking of the nation’s service chiefs and the appointment of fresh ones by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.
The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina noted that Buhari didn’t replace the service chiefs due to pressure from Nigerians but because the time was right.
President Buhari Appoints General Removed For Failing To Apprehend Shekau As Army Chief
President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a former Theater Commander of operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, who was removed by former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, for failing to stop Boko Haram in 2017 as the Chief of Army Staff, Punch reports.
BBC in 2017 reported that Buratai ordered Attahiru to capture Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, dead or alive in 40 days.

The Federal Government has given new directives to civil servants on grade level 12 and below amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a circular dated January 26, Head of Civil Service, Folasade Yemi-Esan, asked the workers to continue working from home till the end of February, since they have been working from home beginning from December.
New Service Chiefs Won’t Be Able To Stop Boko Haram, Others – Nnamdi Kanu
Biafra agitator and leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has reacted to the sack and appointment of new service chiefs by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The IPOB leader predicted that the new service chiefs won’t be able to solve the security challenges facing the nation, noting specifically that they will soon prove their inability to stop Boko Haram, killer herdsmen and ISWAP terrorists.
PDP Asks Buhari To Probe Sacked Security Chiefs
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the sacked service chiefs to unravel the reasons behind Nigeria’s security lapses.
Naija News had earlier reported that Buhari sacked and replaced General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (Chief of Defence Staff); Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (Chief of Army Staff); Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (Chief of Naval Staff); and Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff).
