Manchester United took their fifth consecutive win of the season on Saturday after undergoing a period of irregularity on the pitch under coach Jose Mourinho. Playing at home at Old Trafford Stadium, they defeated Reading in the second division by 2-0 and advanced to the FA Cup.
It was the fifth victory since the dismissal of Mourinho, who could not resist a 3-1 loss to Liverpool in mid-December. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was singled out as being the scorer. And, since the former player took over the team, were five wins in different competitions.
Winning a stir and confidence, United had no problem overcoming Reading. Juan Mata opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of the game, in a penalty shootout, marked with the help of the video referee (VAR).
Before the end of the first half, Belgian Romelu Lukaku struck the 45th-minute victory. Chile’s Alexis Sánchez made a lovely low shot for Lukaku to dribble past the keeper and send it into the net.
The Brazilian Fred came to shake the net in the 19 minutes of the initial stage, but the arbitration canceled the bid by impediment, also by intervention of the VAR.
The triumph secured Manchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Your next opponent will be drawn by lottery.
Chelsea & Hove Albion, Burnley, West Bromwich and West Ham also advanced on Saturday. Arsenal and Chelsea are set to go on Saturday.
