Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State has welcomed 5000 formers members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and other parties led by Chief Andrew Orugbo, into the fold of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the State.
The governor who said that the doors of the PDP were open to the few remaining members of the opposition political parties, added that the PDP now has what it takes to win the 25 Local Government in the state.
Chief Orugbo, a former Commissioner in Delta State and thousands of the returnees were received by the Governor, the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Kingsley Esiso, and other top politicians at a well-attended rally held at Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to the governor, “What we hear from the opposition is that they have the security apparatus, but, in democracy, it is the people who have their voters cards that determine the winners in elections and the PDP will win with great margin in the elections.
“Protect your voters card, don’t be intimidated, with our voters cards, we will get victory, keep working in unity, let us do everything together as members of the PDP family, we don’t discriminate and I welcome all of you who have returned to your home, the PDP,” Okowa said.
Speaking further at the rally, the governor revealed that the state has earmarked 12 Billion for the payment of salaries local government councils owe their workers.
Chief Orugbo, while speaking praised the governor of delivering on his electoral promises, adding that the PDP has institutionalized internal democracy in it fold.
In his speech, earlier, Chief Esiso had said, APC had self-inflicted confusion and cannot win any election in the state.
