President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed concerns about the frequent oil tanker explosions on Nigerian roads.
The President said this in his reaction to the fuel tanker explosion which occurred in Oshigbudu community in Agatu Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on Sunday.
As earlier reported by Naija News, 12 lives were lost while many houses, shops, and properties were destroyed in the inferno caused by the explosion.
Reacting to the development, Buhari in a statement on Monday through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said steps must be taken to curb the frequent explosions and the attendant loss of lives and property.
He condoled with the people and government of Edo State on the incident and instructed relevant agencies to swing into action.
The statement reads: "President Muhammadu Buhari condoles with the government and people of Benue State over the tanker explosion that left several people dead in Agatu Local Government Area of the state."
"Noting that public safety should not be compromised under any circumstances, the President calls for strict adherence to safety standards and procedures; and these rules should be enforced without fear or favour."
Mr. Garba quoted the president as saying "I am worried by the frequency of these tanker explosion incidents on public roads or residential areas. Our road traffic authorities and transportation ministries should urgently address this."
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command has arrested two suspects providing medical assistance to bandits in Buruku, Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
Kaduna Government which disclosed this development, however, stated that three people were killed by gunmen in different locations in the state within the last 48 hours.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, in one of the attacks, bandits invaded Rafin Roro village in Kajuru local government area and killed one person.
