The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has debunked the claim that the conflict at Sani Dingyadi Secondary School is an attempt to abduct students.
Governor Tambuwal who was at the school premises, while speaking with newsmen noted that the incident was about a motorcycle thieve that ran into the school premises while he was being chased by a group of people.
He said, “The incident involved a motorbike thief who ran into the school when he was chased by some people.”
“In the ensuing melee, there was an unexpected entrance of the pursuers into the school premises, which scared the students, some of who called their parents thinking it was a case of kidnapping.”
Tambuwal thereafter addressed the students and assured them of his administration’s determination to provide security for them in their schools.
The Sokoto State Governor also pleaded with the people of the community not to panic and to go about their lawful businesses without fear.
He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state and other security agencies in the state are on top of the situation.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government late on Tuesday night ordered the reopening of 10 mission schools shut down over the controversy surrounding the government policy on the use of hijab in such schools.
