1. FG, SSANU, NASU Meeting Ends In Deadlock

The meeting between the non-teaching staff in the universities under the umbrella of Joint Action Committee and officials of the Federal Government on Tuesday ended in deadlock.

Recall that the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU had threatened to embark on industrial strike starting from February 5 if the government failed to address some of the concerns they raised.

2. Buhari Is A Disappointment, He Has Not Changed – Tunde Bakare

The General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, formerly known as Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said President Muhammadu Buhari has disappointed Nigerians.

Speaking in an Instagram Live interview with Chief Dele Momodu, the former Vice-Presidential candidate said Buhari has not met the expectations of Nigerians.

The cleric said there is a general feeling of disappointment among Nigerians who expected change, adding that Buhari is still the same person and has not been changed by power.

3. COVID-19: FG Bombs Yahaya Bello, Says Nobody Will Spend Billions To Kill Nigerians

The Federal Government has called on Nigerians to disregard conspiracy theories associated with coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines.
Recall that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi has consistently rubbished the existence of the disease while calling on people not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The governor does not wear a face mask except when visiting President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking on Tuesday during the inauguration of the state house clinic COVID-19 isolation centre, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha said nobody will spend billions to kill Africans.

4. Senate Rejects Voting Rights For Married Underage Girls

The Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) matters, on Tuesday, February 2 threw away suggestions for married underage girls to have voting rights.

Kabiru Gaya, chairman of the Senate Committee while answering questions from newsmen in Abuja said the committee has resolved that any woman under the age of 18 can not be allowed to vote even if she is married.

5. Why We Are Selling Diezani’s Jewelry, Other Forfeited Assets – FG

The Federal Government has revealed why it is selling final forfeited assets in 25 locations across the country.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Chairman of the inter-ministerial committee on the disposal of assets forfeited, Dayo Apata, said the government is selling the assets to generate money for the country.

According to Apata, the assets recovery and disposal process are part of the administration of criminal justice policy of the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.

6. Nigerian Army Speaks On Secret Killing Of 6 Igbo Soldiers

The Nigerian Army has reacted to the allegation that six soldiers of Igbo extraction were executed based on orders given by the now-former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Tukur Buratai.

A report on Tuesday based on a statement that originated from a group of human rights activists had claimed that the soldiers were executed secretly.

The group claimed it was informed of the development by an international human rights lawyer, Barr E.R. Okoroafor, who reportedly alleged he was denied the right to defend his client at the secret trial.

However, the Nigerian Army in a reaction on Tuesday via its official Twitter account simply labelled the news as fake.

7. We’ve Banned Open Grazing In South East, Governors Tell Nnamdi kanu

The Chairman of South East Governors’ Forum, David Umahi, says the governors had earlier banned all forms of open grazing within the region.

He made this known on Monday while reacting to a call by the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, that the South-East governors should implement the 1969 Anti-Grazing Law in the region to curb herders and farmers clashes.

According to Umahi, the governors had also banned the movement of cows by foot in the region and have begun plans to flush criminal herders out of all forests in the region.

8. We Don’t Need Transparency International To Tell Us Corruption Is Getting Worse In Nigeria – Peter Obi

Former Anambra State governor and 2019 Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi has declared that it is clear to everyone that corruption is getting worse under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Obi made his view known in reaction to the 2020 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) rating by Transparency International which rated Nigeria very low in corruption.

Obi on Tuesday told Arise TV that it is clear corruption is getting worse in the country.

9. Northern Elders Condemn Attack On Law-abiding Herdsmen

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has totally condemned the attack on law-abiding herdsmen in some parts of the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the NEF Director, Publicity and Advocacy, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the forum urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the state governors to protect law-abiding herdsmen.

The forum, however, called for the arrest and prosecution of persons who are attacking herdsmen. It also advised the herders against reprisal attacks in order not to set the country on a dangerous path.

10. Igboho Breaks Silence On Killing During His Visit To Ogun State

The spokesperson of Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, Dapo Salami, on Tuesday while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan said nobody was killed during Igboho’s visit to Ogun State on Monday.

The spokesperson of the Yoruba activist described the reports as lies from some mischievous elements working against the interest of the Yoruba nation.
