The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Friday, declared that the 2023 presidential ticket should be zoned to the south.
He added that the All Progressives Congress (APC) should respect the zoning agreement even though it is not entrenched in the constitution.
Ganduje however submitted that zoning is a strategy for winning elections.
“The Southern part of the country but there should be a consensus of the members,” he said when asked which zone should produce the next president for Nigeria during his appearance on Channels TV Politics Today.
He added that “zoning system even though it is not in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is a strategy for winning elections.”
The Governor in his view said the APC as well as the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has done well for Nigerians. He expressed confidence that the party will win the 2023 elections at the federal level despite current wranglings between some stakeholders in the party.
“I think in 2023, APC will win the election because more people are coming into the party. Though we lost some governors because of intraparty problems, at the same time some are coming into the party.
“Also there is a very strong movement now to reconcile the major actors and I think that is also making the party stronger,” he said.
Ganduje however advised the party leadership to put its house in order ahead of the 2023 elections in the country so the APC can have a good outing at all levels.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Caretaker Committee and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has replied to some leaders who condemned the on-going membership registration and revalidation exercise of the party.
Naija News reports that the national leader of the party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the former national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole had supported the position of the pioneer National Chairman of the party, Bisi Akande, on the exercise.
But reacting to the criticism of the exercise after revalidating his membership in Bunigari, Gujba LGA, Yobe State, on Thursday, Buni said no party member would be left out in the on-going exercise.
He, however, asserted that the exercise is legal and constitutional, adding that the exercise was within the confines of the law under Article (9) 4 of the party.
