Nigerian athlete, Mercy Ntia-Obong, lead her school, Cloud County Community College to victory during the last weekend after winning a 60m 200m race.
The 23-year-old who competed in the women’s 4 × 100 metres relay event at the 2019 World Athletics Championships emerged winner in the 60m and 200m races at the All-Kansas Invite on Saturday, January 23, 2021, Naija News understands.
Records from the race revealed that Ntia-Obong ran a time of 7.74secs, a national qualifying time in the 60m preliminary stages, ahead of her teammate, Isila Apkup (7.80secs) and Fort Hays’ Holman Lyric (7.81secs).
The young athlete made an impressive form in the 200m, finishing with a time of 24.14secs, ahead of Apkup, who came second in 25.07secs, while Sinegal Trinity from Fort Scott County placed third in 25.12secs. The development saw her set a new school record in the 4x400m relays with Leonie Beu, Isila Apkup, and Pamela Milano (3:50.61secs).
Naija News understands that in 2019, Ntia-Obong won the gold medal in the women’s 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2019 African Games held in Rabat, Morocco.
