1. Kukah Calling For A Violent Overthrow Of Buhari’s Govt – FG
The Federal Government has accused the Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Mathew Kukah, of calling for an overthrow of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
The accusation was made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed in a statement titled, ‘FG Urges Religious Leaders To Eschew Message of Disharmony’, in reaction to Kukah’s Christmas message.
In his message, the Catholic Bishop had said that there could have been a coup or war if a non-Northern Muslim had emerged as the President of this country.
2. ‘Buhari Sacrificing Nigerians Dream For Northern Interest’ – Kukah
Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Mathew Kukah, on Friday, stated that President Muhammadu Buhari has sacrificed the dreams of Nigerians for ‘what seemed like a programme to stratify and institutionalize northern hegemony’.
The cleric further stated that the country is heading for darkness under the leadership of Buhari.
He called on the government to explain the mystery behind the endless bloodletting in the country occasioned by insecurity.
3. 20 Doctors Die Of COVID-19 In Seven Days – NMA
The Chairman of the FCT chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Enema Amodu, has said 20 doctors have died of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the past seven days.
Amodu called on the federal government to provide health workers with personal protective equipment (PPEs) to effectively tackle the second wave of COVID-19.
He described the second wave of the virus as catastrophic following an increase in confirmed cases across the country.
4. 6 Killed, 11 Abducted By Boko Haram Terrorists In Adamawa
Dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group has left residents of Garkida, a community of Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State in tears in a fresh attack.
Six people including a police officer were reportedly killed in the aftermath which happened in the Northeast part of the country.
Naija News had reported earlier that members of the Boko Haram group on Thursday night attacked Garkida through the main road, causing many residents to flee to the surrounding mountains.
5. Insecurity: Why Nigerians Don’t Trust Buhari Govt – Cardinal Onaiyekan
The Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has revealed why Nigerians don’t trust the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Naija News reports that some Nigerians have continued to criticize the present government over the high level of insecurity in the North and the country in general.
While some have called for the sacking of the Service Chiefs, others asked the President to restructure the country to end insecurity in the country.
6. Gunmen Abduct PFN Chairman, Wife On Christmas Day
Unknown gunmen on Friday, December 25, 2020, abducted the Kaduna State Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Apostle Emmanuel Egoh Bako and his wife, Mrs. Cindy Bako.
Apostle Emmanuel Egoh Bako is also the Secretary, Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association (SKCLA).
The couple were kidnapped at their residence in Albarka Camp, Fadan Kagoma, near Kafanchan in Jema’a Local Government Area.
7. Gov. Ikpeazu Of Abia Speaks On Dumping PDP
The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has denied nursing plans of dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for another party.
The Governor in an interview on Friday amidst rumours that he is planning to dump the PDP for another party submitted that he is very comfortable with PDP.
He added that while every politician is at liberty to choose political affiliations, he believes the PDP is the best option not only for him, but also for Abia State.
8. Insecurity: Why Herdsmen Are Abducting, Killing People – Yakasai
Founding member of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Tanko Yakassai, says herdsmen and livestock keepers have taken to kidnapping and armed robbery because they were left without livelihoods.
Tanko Yakassai, a member of the Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU), said he has lost confidence in the ability of President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle insecurity.
9. Couples Must Seek Permission From Government Before Their Wedding Ceremony In Lagos
The Lagos State government has obliged the intending couples to seek permission from the state government before organizing the 300-member wedding ceremony.
The new measure is contained in a statement issued by the government last Friday titled “Stay At Home”.
“Weddings and public gatherings, should not exceed 300 people after obtaining permission from the Lagos State Safety Commission,” according to a statement.
10. We Don’t Yet Understand Why COVID-19 Numbers Aren’t As High In Africa – Bill Gates
Bill Gates, a co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), has expressed concern over the minimal level of COVID-19 infection in Africa.
The philanthropist and American investor in the health sector in his end of the year review on Gates Notes said he was happy with the low prevalence of the disease in Africa as against his prediction.
He said: “One thing I’m happy to have been wrong about—at least, I hope I was wrong—is my fear that COVID-19 would run rampant in low-income countries.”
“So far, this hasn’t been true. In most of sub-Saharan Africa, for example, case rates and death rates remain much lower than in the U.S. or Europe and on par with New Zealand, which has received so much attention for its handling of the virus.”
