No less than six persons died and 30 buildings were razed in a petrol tanker fire incident in Jebba town, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The tanker reportedly lost control and spilled its content, rammed into residential buildings, and resulted in an explosion that razed shops and houses.
The fire incident which occurred on Wednesday was brought under control by the state fire service which responded swiftly.
In his reaction, the state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, in a statement by his spokesperson Rafiu Ajakaye described the incident as “devastating and sad.”
The statement read ”The governor is very sad at this development, especially with the loss of lives and millions of properties and farmlands.
“He has also directed the state emergency management agency, SEMA, to quickly move in to determine the material loss.”
“The incident resulted in huge explosions that burnt down at least 30 houses and shops and killed up to six persons,” according to the account of the state fire service, that brought the fire under control.”
The governor further commended the fire service for their swift response.
In the same vein, a fuel tanker explosion occurred last weekend on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway along the Otedola bridge.
The explosion occurred inside the ditch when descending into Otedola Bridge near Otedola Estate on the outbound service lane of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Thick smoke could be seen enveloping the skies around the area in the video seen on social media.
