Some officers of the Nigeria police force in Bayelsa State have been accused of killing a 17-year-old boy whose dream is to become a lawyer.
Speaking before the Judicial Panel of Inquiry investigating police brutality and extrajudicial killing in the state, Mr Daniel Kokorifa, an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, disclosed that his child, Innocent was killed some officers in 2016.
The FRSC official alleged that his teenage son was murdered in August 2016 by men of the Anti-Vice Unit of the Bayelsa State Police Command.
Narrating the sorrowful incident to the panel, Kokorifa said Innocent was killed while running an errand for his mother.
The government official who is an indigene of Okpotuwari community of the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state, in the petition dated November 4, 2020, through his counsel, E. A. Aluzu, alleged that his child was shot from behind at about 11.30 am by one Corporal Vincent Kohamowei without provocation.
In the same report, another petitioner, Lucky Amakiri, 81, told the panel that his grandson, Blessing Amakiri, was shot dead by the men of state police command by a mere assumption that he belonged to a cult in the state.
The bereaved parent said his 19-year-old child was shot dead by the men of Ekeki Police Division while on an errand at the former Oyoyo Market in Ovom area of the state capital.
Meanwhile, a police officer who was trying to rescue hostages in Bosuwa village in Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State was shot dead by kidnappers on Monday.
The State police spokesman, SP Abdu Jinjiri confirmed the incident to Channels TV on Tuesday, Naija News reports.
