COVID-19 Re-Emerges In Kano, Killing Two People

Two people have died and 21 others have contracted COVID-19 in Kano State in one day.

After a long absence of the disease in Kano State, the chairman of the state COVID-19 Technical Response team, Tijjani Hussaini, said in the last 10 days alone, 85 cases have been detected in the state.

“The spread of COVID-19 is particularly high in December when 85 people were infected in 10 days. In one day it killed two people and arrested 22 others, on Thursday,” he said.

He said there were new cases of coronavirus infection in Nasarawa, Birni and other villages, and called on the people of the state to be vigilant.

COVID-19: Kano calls for COVID-19 volunteer staff

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has already ordered health workers who have volunteered to fight COVID-19 to resume back.

He said the state government would redouble its efforts to eradicate the disease in the state.

Ganduje also expressed concern over the public’s disregard for sanctions, the provision of travel, hand washing and other preventive measures.

“Because the virus was down, we had to reduce volunteer workers. But now that the curve of the pandemic has risen, we are returning to the drawing board to invite nurses, NGOs, development partners and all stakeholders so that we are on the same page to take this fight to the community level.

“No doubt, the issue in Kano is that of negligence to protocols. We have to reinforce compliance, especially wearing of face mask.

“Drivers, market people, health workers and religious and traditional leaders must show example to encourage others.”  Ganduje said.
