ASUU Gives FG Conditions For Lecturers To Resume Classes

ASUU Warns Senate over plans to buy exotic cars

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Wednesday gave the Federal Government condition for its members to resume back to class.

The President of the union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, noted that members of the union would not return to classes unless the President Muhammadu Buhari provide conducive teaching environment in line with COVID-19 protocols.

Ogunyemi stated this while speaking with newsmen in Abuja, after announcing an end to the nine months strike.

The ASUU President said: “We usually said we did not close the universities, the government remains the owner of the universities, be it state or federal.”

“As far as we are concerned, we are ready to resume classes. But the government should make the environment conducive for us to work within the context of the emerging trend of COVID-19.”

“So, we can’t tell the government not to open but we have the right to insist that the COVID-19 protocols should be observed and the requirements for observing the protocols should be met.”

Naija News has earlier reported that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Wednesday suspended its nationwide industrial action.

This was made known in a press conference on Wednesday morning by the President of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi.
