1. Nigeria Officially Joins African Free Trade Zone

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday ratified Nigeria’s membership of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement in Abuja.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, made this known at the end of the weekly meeting of the Council chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

2. President Buhari Reinstates Prof. Ogundipe As UNILAG VC, Dissolves Governing Council

President Muhammadu Buhari has reinstated Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday titled, ‘Re: Report of special visitation panel to UNILAG’ by Ben-Bem Goong, Director Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education.

The President also dissolved the Governing Council of the institution led by Dr. B.O Babalakin.

3. Senate To Buhari: Prosecute Boko Haram Sponsors

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to prosecute the sponsors of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

The Senate Committee on Army made the call at a press conference on Wednesday.

Naija News reports that this was shortly after the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, led other generals to defend the 2021 budget of the Army, behind closed doors.

4. How Dasuki And Former NNPC Boss Spent N2.2bn For Prayers Against Boko Haram – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused Sambo Dasuki, former National Security Adviser (NSA), and Aminu Baba-Kusa, a former general manager of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), of spending N2.2 billion on prayers to defeat Boko Haram Terrorists.

An investigative officer with the EFCC, Adariko Michael revealed this while testifying before Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf of the Abuja federal high court on Tuesday.

5. Strike Continues As PENGASSAN, FG Meeting Ends In Deadlock

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) on Wednesday stated that it could not come to an agreement with the Federal Government after a meeting.

Naija News recalls that PENGASSAN had on Monday embarked on a nationwide strike.

The union leader, Festus Osifo, in a statement after the meeting, said the meeting was inconclusive.

6. Ex-Imo Governor, Ohakim Arraigned In Court, Gets N10m Bail

Former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim was on Wednesday arraigned by the Police before an Abuja High Court for allegedly giving false information against one Chinyere Amuchienwa.

The IGP filed charges against Ohakim for allegedly using the name of Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians by claiming a plot of land reportedly for sale in Ikeja Lagos State., belongs to the Minister.

7. Akeredolu Supports Government Decision To Freeze Accounts Of #EndSARS Protesters

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has backed the decision by the federal government to freeze bank accounts of some people who participated in the #EndSARS protests.

According to him, the government has operated within the provisions of the law and the affected persons have to appear in court to present facts why their accounts should not be frozen.

8. Lagos: Tinubu Reacts To Plans By Sanwo-Olu To Stop Pension For Ex-Governors, Deputies

Former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has declared support for the plans by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to stop payment of pension and other retirement benefits to former Governors and their Deputies in the state.

Tinubu made his stand on the matter known on Wednesday via a statement released on his Twitter account, declaring that he would have done the same if he found himself in the Governor’s shoes.

9. Nigerian Army Declares Shekau, Al-Barnawi, 79 Other Top Boko Haram Fighters Wanted

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday declared another batch of 81 Boko Haram terrorists and other insurgents wanted for various crimes relating to insurgency.

This was done at the Chabbal Super Camp in Maiduguri, Borno State at a programme attended by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, and Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno.

10. United States Impose New “First-Of-Its-Kind” Visa Ban

The United States Government has announced a new visa ban which it described as “first-of-its-kind” for specific targets.

Naija News reports that the new visa ban will target wildlife and timber traffickers.

This was made known in a statement on Tuesday by the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo.
