The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) went on strike nationwide on Monday.
The move is seen as a potential cause of fuel scarcity in the country as a whole as PENGASSAN has stopped its supply to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The union leader, Festus Osifo, said they had joined the strike because the government had refused to meet the demands of the oil and gas sector.
He said: “Today (Monday), PENGASSAN has declared a strike. Our members are sitting at home and we will continually watch the situation and if we need to rev it up, we will definitely rev it up,”
He added that the union had given the government a seven-day deadline last Monday on their demands.
Osifo also said that the Federal Government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) was part of the reason for the strike.
