Fresh Details Emerge of How Nasarawa APC Chairman Was Abducted, Killed

More details have emerged on the abduction and murder of Philip Shekwo, the Nasarawa State Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by unknown gunmen at the weekend.

Naija News reports that the late Nasarawa APC chairman was on Saturday night kidnapped from his residence in Lafia.

Shekwo’s bullet-riddled body was later found on Sunday.

Giving more details of what transpired, a source told The Nation that the killers arrived Shekwo’s home on Kurikyo Road, Bukan Sidi, in Lafia around 11 pm and started shooting sporadically.

Shekwo was said to have perceived danger and made several calls to security agencies without success.

Another source, Joseph Gudu said the killers used diggers to break a door in the house before whisking Shekwo away.

Gudu said: “His wife, children and the chairman himself made several calls to security agencies in the state but nobody responded.

“The operation lasted about 49 minutes before the gunmen entered the bedroom of the chairman after disarming his security guard. They took him away and killed him just a metre away from his house. They hung his car key close to his lifeless body.”

Assassination

Speaking on the murder, the Nasarawa Police Commissioner Emmanuel Longe said the APC chairman’s body was found with gunshot wounds.

According to Longe, Shekwo’s death showed that it was not all about kidnapping but assassination.

He said: “From what we have seen since yesterday and the intensity of bullet marked on the wall of the house and the forceful gaining of entrance into the house proved that it was much more than kidnapping.

“And where we found his body, near his house, normally when kidnapping is carried out, it is for profit-making. But this has shown that within a twinkle of an eye, the man was killed, no demand was made whatsoever.

“I believed it was an assassination. But that, notwithstanding, we are going to carry out an exhaustive investigation that will give us a clue to what actually happened. But for now, I believed it was an assassination.”
