Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has declared a 24-hour state of emergency in some local government areas due to the insurgency caused by hoodlums hiding under the guise of the #ENDSARS protests in the state.
The law will apply to Oyigbo and other parts of Obio-Akpor and Port Harcourt counties.
Governor Wike held a press conference and declared a state of emergency in some areas including Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.
He said the law has been extended to Mile 1, Mile 2, Emenike, Ikowu and Iloaubuchi areas of Port Harcourt Local Government Area of the state.
The governor said the enactment of the law was necessary to checkmate the miscreants hiding under the #ENDSARS protests to wreak havoc.
Governor Wike revealed that some of the miscreants destroyed the police station and courts in Oyigbo Local Government Area.
The governor stated: “Earlier today (yesterday), some hoodlums attacked and destroyed police stations and court buildings in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state. Another set of hooligans were also on a rampage at the Ikokwu spares market, disturbing public peace and damaging property.”
