The Senate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has withdrawn its suit challenging the removal of Prof. Toyin Ogundipe as the Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
Naija News reports that UNILAG Senate had filed an applicantion on Moday at the National Industrial Court to discontinue the suit.
Recall that the Wale Babalakin-led Governing Council had on August 12, 2020, sacked Ogundipe.
The council had replaced him with Prof. Theophilus Soyombo who later resigned his appointment.
Angered by Ogundipe’s removal, the senate had instituted a suit against Wale Babalakin (SAN).
Other defendants in the suit marked NICN/LA/283/2020 were the Registrar, Mr Oladejo Azeez; Soyomo and Ogundipe.
The senate asked the court to declare that Ogundipe’s removal was unprocedural, null and void.
However, on Monday the senate informed the court that it was withdrawing the suit, NAN reports.
The withdrawal of the suit was following Buhari decision to suspend Ogundipe and Babalakin.
President Buhari also directed the senate of the university to convene and nominate an acting vice-chancellor from among its members for the confirmation by the university council.
Obeying the directive, the Senate on Monday elected Professor Folashade Ogunsola as the new acting VC of the institution.
Ogunsola, a Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services) polled 135 votes compared to Prof. Ben Oghojafor’s 31 votes.
It was gathered one vote was declared void.
A total of 167 Professors were at the Senate meeting.
