The Ebonyi State Government on Monday noted that schools in the state remain closed till further notice due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The state government revealed this in a statement released by the Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe, through his Press secretary, Mr Monday Uzor.
The Deputy Governor stated that the government is set to commence the House-House COVID-19 contact tracing in various communities of the state.
Igwe noted that the contact tracing of Coronavirus patients will help to curtail the high spread of the virus.
The statement reads in part: “As part of efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the Ebonyi State Government through the Deputy Governor, Barr. Eric Kelechi Igwe has announced a House to House testing strategy on each citizen across the 13 Local Government Councils, a programme designed for 14 days in the first instance.”
“As a result of importance attached to this test run, the 13 council Chairmen are by this announcement directed to ensure that a minimum of one hundred persons is made available by each of the councils to participate in the testing exercise. They should also liaise with the state Ministry of Health for the testing procedure.”
“With the approval of His Excellency the Governor, the Deputy Governor further directs that schools in the state remain closed in the meantime which has become imperative after reviewing the current situation on the spread of the virus within the state.”
“Government is irrevocably committed to protecting the lives of school children especially now that COVID 19 has escalated into community transmission.”
“Ebonyi people and indeed parents are advised to take this decision in good fate since no drug or vaccine has been globally or nationally certified for the treatment of the deadly virus.”
