1. NCDC Confirms 573 New Cases Of Coronavirus In Nigeria

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday evening confirmed 573 new cases of coronavirus infection in Nigeria.

With the latest figures, Nigeria now has 16,658 confirmed COVID-19 cases including 5,349 discharged cases and
424 deaths.

2. Rape Has Increased In Nigeria Due To COVID-19 Lockdown – IGP Adamu

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu on Monday, held a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on the rising cases of sexual violence in the country.

The meeting held at the President’s office, State House, Abuja.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Police boss identified the coronavirus lockdown as a major factor responsible for the increase in cases of sexual-based violence particularly rape.

3. NIMC Says It Has Registered 900 Repentant Boko Haram Fighters

No less than 900 repentant Boko Haram fighters have been registered by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The commission confirmed the development in a statement on Monday where it noted that its action is part of efforts to provide support for government actions towards tackling insecurity and insurgency in the country.

4. COVID-19: Nigerian Doctors Commence Indefinite Strike

Nigerian resident doctors have finally fulfilled their threat to the federal government by kick-starting a nationwide strike on Monday despite the rising cases of COVID-19 pandemic.

Naja News recalls that the Doctors had threatened to commence a nationwide strike after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum given to President Muhammadu Buhari led government.

5. Insecurity: Stop Claiming The Battle Has Been Won – CAN Attacks Government

The Kaduna State chapter of the Christain Association of Nigeria has reacted to the level of insecurity in the Northern region of Nigeria.

CAN in a statement released on Monday raised concern over the recent killings in Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Borno States, and other parts of the country.

Leader of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Professor Ango Abdullahi has replied the presidency over its recent claim that NEF has no membership and unfit to talk on national issues.

Naija News recalls the latest back and forth between the presidency and Prof. Abdullahi started on Sunday after NEF in a statement by its leader on Sunday accused President Muhammadu Buhari of issuing threats and promises that have no effect.

7. Senator Bayo Osinowo Is Dead

A prominent Nigerian Senator, Adebayo Sikiru Osinowo popularly known as ‘Pepper’ has died aged 65 after a brief illness.

Osinowo who is the currently represents Lagos East Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate died on Monday, sources confirmed to Naija News the Lagos political circle was thrown into mourning on Monday.

8. FAAN Issues Fresh Directives As Airports Target Commercial Flight Resumption

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has told travellers they would have to arrive at airports at least three hours before their flight time when commercial flights resume.

FAAN noted this is to ensure necessary checks and screening are done for the travellers before boarding for their flights.

9. Foremost Nigerian Professor, Akinkugbe, Is Dead

A foremost Nigerian Professor of Medicine at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Oladipo Olujimi Akinkugbe, is dead.

Naija News reports that the Emeritus Professor, 86, died at Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday.

10. President Buhari Meets Borno Governor, Zulum

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met with Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, North-east Nigeria.

In a post on Twitter, the Personal Assistant to the President on Social Media, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed that the meeting was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
