EPL: Tottenham Speaks On Calling Off Man Utd Friday Clash

Tottenham Hotspur has cleared the air on calling off their Friday game against Manchester United following a report that a player from the club they played in the last week has tested positive for Coronavirus pandemic.

The English Premier League 2019/2020 season restarts on June 17 and the Spurs will be hosting United on Friday, June 17, Naija News understands.

The Spurs has, however in a statement released a moment ago insist on going on with the Friday’s clash against United despite the report that a Norwich City player they played against in the last weekend has tested positive for COVID-19.

Naija News understands that the player’s test result was confirmed on Saturday when an update of the club’s COVID-19 examined samples results were announced.

However, the player will now spend seven days in isolation while the EPL games restart.

Speaking on the development, Spurs said, “Close contacts have been defined by the government as being within two metres of a confirmed case for 15 minutes or more,” Tottenham said in a statement.

“The Norwich player in question confirmed he had no ‘close contacts’ with our team and our squad also verified this.

“Our testing has continued to return only negative results for Covid-19 since one positive reading was confirming almost two weeks ago.”

In another news, Nigerian professional player, Taiwo Micheal Awoniyi, better known as Taiwo Awoniyi, was on Sunday, June 14 taken from the pitch after he was knocked down during a match against Augsburg, Naija News reports.
