The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the reported clash between Aisha Buhari and an aide to President Buhari, Sabiu Yusuf.
Naija News reports that gunshots were heard in the Aso Rock villa last night following a clash between the First lady and Sabiu Yusuf.
The issue started when Aisha, members of her immediate family and her Aide-de-camp, Usman Shugaba tried to force Yusuf into self-isolation after he returned from Lagos state, where his wife had a baby.
According to Thisday newspaper, trouble started when the First Lady, Zahra, Halima and Yusuf, accompanied by some of her security aides led by the Aide-de-Camp, went to the residence of Sabiu, who is the President’s nephew, demanding that he (Sabiu) self-isolate for 14 days, so as not to endanger the first family.
It was gathered that Sabiu escaped after gunshots were fired by the First Lady’s ADC in an attempt to apprehend the President’s aide.
He, however, ran into a nearby house of the President Buhari’s cousin, Mamman Daura, where he reportedly spent the night.
The incidence was reported to the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who then ordered the arrest of the Aide-de-camp to the First Lady and all the security aides that accompanied her to Sabiu’s residence.
Reacting in a statement on Saturday by its spokesperson Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP described the reported shooting as a major security breach within the precincts of the Presidential Villa.
The party described the report that members of Buhari’s family were at the scene of the assault against one of the President’s aides as distressing.
The statement reads: “Our party is disturbed by such ugly situation in the Buhari Presidency, which has already heightened apprehensions in the public space over the apparent failure of the security architecture and central command system in the presidency leading to such reckless and irresponsible breaches.
“The chaotic situation in the Presidential villa only points to the failure by President Buhari to provide leadership that can guarantee orderliness in governance and effectively ensure the security of our nation.”
“More worrisome is that the Buhari Presidency had failed to speak out on the frightening situation to reassure Nigerians and douse the tension in the polity; especially at this critical time when our nation is facing serious security challenges,” the party added.
The PDP also urged President Buhari to restore order in his Presidency and shield the nations security system from the division and power tussle among persons close to him.
