21 Suspected Cultists Arrested In Lagos

Lagos State Taskforce has reportedly arrested some suspected members of a deadly cult group during a recent raid on criminal hideouts in the state.

According to the report made available to newsmen on Thursday, June 18, a unit of the enforcement team arrested not less than twenty-one suspects during a raid on criminal hideouts in the state.

Speaking on the successful operation, the Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, who led the unit during the raid, disclosed that the suspects were arrested at Ogudu and Ajah respectively following an order from the office of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu.

“During the enforcement exercise, a large number of miscreants and cultists launched a serious attack on the officers with broken bottles, stones, axes and other dangerous weapons from different spots, including uncompleted buildings,” said Egbeyemi.

He, however, revealed that despite thrust on the hideout by the Taskforce team, some members of the group were able to escape arrest.

Egbeyemi expressed concerns on activities of the miscreant in the community, noting that residents in the two communities have repeatedly lodged complaints to the security agency over unrest always triggered by the groups.

He said, “Let me sound a note of warning to owners of structures harbouring criminal elements to immediately flush them out as the government would not hesitate to demolish any building occupied by miscreants and cultists across the State,”

“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP Hakeem Odumosu has instructed that all the 21 arrested persons be prosecuted,” Egbeyemi revealed.

Meanwhile, Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has explained why schools in the state are still closed.

According to the governor, while addressing the press at the State House in Marina, his government is not yet ready with the guidelines for reopening schools.
