The new emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has said the mass deaths recorded in Kano State was not as a result of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).
Naija News reports that over 600 people have been reported to have died in Kano in the past one week, with the state commissioner for information, Muhammad Garba, saying in a statement on Sunday that the government is putting measures in place to keep all residents safe.
The commissioner said the Kano state government has been commended from within and outside the state over the proactive measures it took to check the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the northern state.
“This explains why Kano, apart from being the most populace state, did not record a case of the pandemic until lately. Though we agree that the situation on hand currently is serious, we are not resting on our oars in taking appropriate measures to ensure that the good people of Kano state, and indeed, residents in the state protect themselves from the novel COVID-19 pandemic,” the commissioner said.
Reacting, a statement he personally signed, the Emir advised Kano State residents to adhere to all medical advice.
“We have been informed by the ministry that the deaths were not as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
“This report is really important, the report has further confirmed to us that COVID-19 is real and that as of today about 73 people have tested positive for the pandemic.
“My people, with regards to this situation, it has become necessary for us to remind you of the need to follow all the necessary medical advice,” he said.
Emir Ado Bayero also urged Kano residents to stay indoors and stay away from crowded places.
“I equally call on you to look after your children and make sure they do not continue to play football on the streets, once you notice any symptoms please do not hesitate to report such to medical experts,” he said.
