The All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed Tuesday’s Supreme Court verdict which affirmed Hope Uzodinma as the authentic governor of Imo State.

Reacting in a statement signed by Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC noted that the court has just affirmed the voice of the people in Imo State.

Naija News recalls the apex court on Tuesday, delivered a final judgment on the 2019 Imo State governorship election dispute between the APC and PDP.

The apex court delivered its judgment after hearing arguments from all parties involved in the case instituted by the sacked Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha asking the court to review its judgment which sacked him from office and installed Hope Uzodinma of the APC.

In its ruling, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal by Ihedioha and the PDP asking it to review its verdict which sacked him as the Imo State governor for lack of merit.

The apex court said there is no constitutional provision for setting aside an earlier Supreme Court judgment.

“The verdict of the supreme court is a finality,” the panel submitted.

With Tuesday’s ruling, Senator Hope Uzodinma has been confirmed as the authentic governor of Imo State.

In its reaction to the court verdict, the APC statement on Tuesday congratulated “the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma on the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his 2019 election victory following the Apex Court’s review of its earlier decision.”

The party also declared readiness to abide by the rule of law and court orders so as to strengthen democratic processes in Nigeria.

As a law-abiding party, we believe in the sanctity of the rule of law and will always accept the decisions of the Apex Court, whether favourable or not. The APC will never choose the route of impugning on the integrity of our Judiciary, undermining other public institutions and threatening our democracy with unpatriotic utterances and actions.”

“However, recent developments in the polity has made electoral and judicial reforms a matter of urgency and necessity. These are the tasks before the 9th National Assembly as it embarks on the Constitution Review exercise.”

“We are confident the Imo people have chosen the right man for the job. Our congratulations, therefore, goes to the good people of Imo State as they begin a new journey into prosperity under the capable watch of Governor Uzodinma.”
