1. President Buhari Mocks PDP, See Why

President Muhammadu Buhari has mocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, over its “terminal decline and future in national politics.”

Naija News reports that President Buhari mocked the PDP in a statement issued by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity on Thursday, January 9.

2. Court Sends DG Arts And Culture, Runsewe To Prison

The Federal High Court in Abuja has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Olusegun Runsewe, with immediate effect and hand him over to the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS).

According to Justice Jude Okeke who gave the order earlier today while ruling on a motion drawn from a suit filed by Ummakalif Limited Runsewe must be arrested for disobeying its orders released on December 15, 2017.

3. Sanwo-Olu, Oyetola Absent As Operation ‘Amotekun’ Launched In Ibadan

Three southwest governor has failed to show up at the official launching of the joint security outfit “Operation ‘Amotekun”

President Muhammadu Buhari has reversed the sack of Marilyn Amobi as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company Limited (NBET).

The President’s move was contained in a memo issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

5. Four Killed As Bandits Kidnap Chief Imam In Niger State

The chief imam of Beni central mosque in Munya local government area of Niger state, Umar Mohammed has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

About twenty other members of the community were also said to have been kidnapped by the bandits numbering over 50 who invaded the community on Wednesday.

6. Buhari’s Minister Issues Fresh Orders To NBC On Nigeria’s Broadcast Industry

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately implement measures aimed at re-positioning the broadcast industry with a view to sanitizing the industry, creating jobs, promoting local content, boosting the advert industry and bringing the broadcast industry up to par with the best practices from around the world.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister said the directive becomes necessary following the submission of the report of the committee which he set up to work out the modalities for implementing the recommendations approved by President Muhammadu Buhari to re-position the broadcast industry.

7. 2023: Doyin Okupe Outlines Seven Ways PDP Can Be Victorious

A former aide of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, has outlined seven ways the Peoples Democratic Party needs to prepare ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The PDP chieftain in his post on Twitter noted that the party needs to rebrand, rebuild, reform, ahead of the 2023 elections.

8. President Buhari Makes Fresh Appointments

The appointment of Mallam Garba Abubakar as the substantive Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Naija News reports that appointment was contained in a letter signed on Tuesday by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OSGF.

Senator Ali Ndume (APC-Borno South) has said activities of Boko Haram insurgency will continue in the North-east unless challenges confronting the military are addressed.

Ndume, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, made this known while speaking with The Punch on Wednesday.

10. N-Power Sacks Over 200,000 Volunteers

The federal government of Nigeria has revealed that it is ready to disengage over 200,000 beneficiaries of the nation’s social investment programme (N-power) that were recruited in 2016.
