Supreme Court Set To Deliver Final Judgment On Sokoto Governorship Election

Anxiety In Sokoto Over Supreme Court Judgment

The Supreme Court of Nigeria will today (Monday) deliver judgment on disputes arising from the 2019 Sokoto State governorship election.

It is understood that ahead of the Supreme Court ruling, there is palpable anxiety in Sokoto State.

However, the Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Alhaji Ibrahim Kaoje has urged residents of the state to remain calm as men and officers of the command have been placed on alert to prevent any form of breakdown of law and order.

He added that no fewer than 1,000 policemen would be deployed in the venue of the judgment.

“We are on a 24-hour red alert. We will keep the state safe and secure,” Kaoje said.

Naija News recalls Governor Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner of the Sokoto gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He defeated his closest challenger, Alhaji Ahmed Sokoto of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with a slim margin of 342 votes after a supplementary election who then headed to the tribunal to challenge the result.

Earlier, the Sokoto Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal had dismissed his petition for lack of merit.
