Imo: Why ‘Unserious’ PDP Must Apologise – Keyamo

The Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Festus Keyamo, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to apologise to Nigerians over a statement on the Supreme Court judgement of Imo election.

Naija News reports that the Supreme Court headed by Justice Tanko Muhammad has sacked the incumbent, Governor Emeka Ihedioha from office.

The seven-man panel of the apex court in a unanimous decision held that Ihedioha did not win the majority of votes cast at the March 9 governorship election.

In the Judgment delivered by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the court accordingly ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Ihedioha and issue a fresh Certificate of Return to the candidate of the APC on grounds that he won the majority of lawful votes cast at the election.

The court held that the lower courts erred in law when it rejected evidence tendered before them to the extent that votes from 388 polling units were not credited to the APC and Hope Uzodinma.

Recall that the PDP in a statement by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan rejected the ruling and queried how Uzodinma who came fourth could be declared as the winner of the election.

Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday while attending an event in Ughelli, Delta State, Festus Keyamo described the PDP as a very unserious opposition.

He urged the party to apologise to Nigerians, adding that their reaction was not only objective but ‘extremely provocative’

“PDP is an opposition that takes the benefit from the system; from a particular institution and they don’t want to take the downs from that same institution,” Keyamo said.

“The same court that gave them victories and excluded us entirely in Rivers State, excluded us entirely in Zamfara State; is that the same kangaroo court?

“How can democrats come out and make such very inciting statement? I think it is an irresponsible statement.

“It doesn’t even deserve a response and they need to apologise to Nigerians and to the Supreme Court; it’s extremely provocative.”
