1. Court Sentences Orji Uzor Kalu To 12-Years Imprisonment, Forfeits Company To Federal Government
The former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu, has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday.
The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District has been found guilty on all the 39-count charges filed against him.
2. Court Gives Final Ruling On Suit Seeking Third Term For President Buhari
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Charles Enya, who had earlier filed a suit seeking a constitutional amendment to allow President Muhammadu Buhari to seek for third term in office has withdrawn the case.
The APC member in a statement stated that the withdrawal came into play to allow for further consultations.
3. Court Gives DSS 24 Hours To Release Sowore, Bakare
A Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the DSS to release the Convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore, and Olawale Bakare within the next 24 hours.
Naija News understands that Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, who gave the order, also awarded an N100, 000 fine against the DSS over its delay to serve the defence counsel with the additional proof of evidence in the ongoing trial of Sowore and Olawale Bakare.
4. Nigerian Senate Passes 2020 Budget
The Nigerian Senate has on Thursday, passed a record 10.59 trillion naira ($34.72 billion) budget for 2020.
Naija News reports that the chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Jubril Barau, presented the final report on the floor of the Senate for consideration and passage.
5. Court Orders Movement Of El-Zakzaky To Correctional Centre
The transfer of embattled leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife to a correctional center in the state has been ordered by a Kaduna state high court sitting in the state capital.
According to the trial judge, Justice Gideon Kudafa, the decision to remand the IMN leader and his wife in a correctional facility is in a bid to enable their lawyers and doctors to have easy access to them.
6. Open Letter: Sowore Continued Detention Act Of Thuggery – Soyinka Tells Buhari
Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has told President Muhammadu Buhari that the continued detention of the convener of the #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore, is an act of thuggery.
Naija News reports that a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday directed the DSS to release Sowore and Olawale Bakare within the next 24 hours.
7. House of Reps Pass 2020 Budget
The Federal House of Representatives on Thursday passed the 2020 Appropriation Bill, raising the total estimates from the proposed N10.33tn to N10.6tn.
This is following the consideration and unanimous adoption of the report by the House Committee on Appropriations on the bill.
8. Pipeline Explosion Rocks Gloryland Estate, Isheri, Lagos
An early morning explosion leading to a fire outbreak has occurred on Thursday near the Gloryland Estate, Isheri Olofin, Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
According to reports gathered by Naija News, the fire started at around 7:45am.
9. Orji Kalu Should Resign As Senate Chief Whip – CUPP
The Coalition of United Political Parties, on Thursday, while reacting to the 12 years imprisonment judgement passed against the former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, charged him to resign from his position as the Senate Chief Whip.
Naija News had reported that the Senator was convicted by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State.
10. Kano Lawmakers Approve Re-Introduced Bill On Creation Of 4 Additional Emirates
The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the re-submitted Kano Emirates Council Bill.
