NLC Reacts To Nigerian Governors Forum Verdict On Minimum Wage Increment

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has rejected the increment agreement negotiation of the Federal Government with labour which is known as” consequential adjustment of Minimum Wage.”

According to the Governors, the negotiation with labour unions in the states will be based on the financial capability of each state.

Speaking on the verdict of the forum, the governors declared that they were not bound by the agreement on “consequential increment” between the Federal Government and labour unions.

However, in a quick reaction to the verdict coming from the NGF on the consequential adjustment of minimum wage, the labour unions in Nigeria have berated the decision of the Governors.

According to the Trade Union Congress, Secretary-General, Origi Musa-Lawal, the state governments are only playing games. They were represented in the minimum wage committee. They cannot come around to deny their responsibility. They are simply courting labour’s anger and we are ready for them.

Naija News recalls that the development comes just days after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) ordered that payments of the new minimum wage and the consequential adjustments, must be completed by the 31st of December, 2019.
