The election of Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, has been affirmed by the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Naija News reports that a three-man panel of the Tribunal upheld the election of Governor Emmanuel in a unanimous judgement delivered on Thursday, September 19.
The petition filed by Nsima Ekere of candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was dismissed by the tribunal for lack of merit.
Naija News recalls that Governor Emmanuel won the March 9 governorship poll on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), thereby becoming Akwa Ibom governor for a second term.
Governor Emmanuel defeated his APC rival and others to extend his stay in office by another four years.
Speaking after the judgment, Governor Emmanuel commended the Tribunal’s ruling and dedicated his victory to God and the good people the state.
The Akwa Ibom Governor also called on the opposition in Akwa Ibom to join him in developing the state.
Governor Emmanuel said the time has come for the people to come together and move the state forward as the ‘Completion Agenda’ was an Akwa Ibom Agenda.
